About Outer Rim Props

Outer Rim Props is an independent, one-man prop workshop in Molalla, Oregon, handcrafting Star Wars–inspired replica blasters, DIY build kits, display accessories, and laser-engraved décor. Every piece is designed, printed, finished, and weathered personally by owner and maker Jeff Wilson — an active member of the 501st Legion since 2019.

How It Started

Like a lot of good builds, this one started in a garage. I had a 3D printer and a habit — printing busts, knick-knacks, and whatever else caught my eye. One day I got ambitious. As a member of the 501st Legion, I needed an E-11-style blaster for my stormtrooper kit, so I designed and printed my own.

My garrison mates saw it, loved it, and asked for their own. I built theirs too. My wife Marilyn — who has backed this thing from day one — finally said, “You should sell a few of these.” A handful of Etsy and eBay listings later, Outer Rim Props took off. It hasn’t slowed down since.

A Family Workshop

This is still a hands-on, family-run operation. I run Outer Rim Props on the side — my day job is operations manager at a large distribution center — and the people I trust most help make it happen. Marilyn handles boxing and quality control. My oldest son runs shipping. Every order that leaves here has been through our hands, not a warehouse line.

Why I Build the Way I Build

I’ve loved models my whole life — the design, the assembly, the patience of it. My blasters are built like models, and that’s exactly why I love making them. The process runs from custom design, to resin printing, to the part I enjoy most: hand-painting and weathering, where a raw print finally comes to life as something with history and character.

Here’s the honest difference. A lot of sellers chase quantity. I don’t. Each piece is handcrafted, finished, and built by me personally. That means my work takes a little more lead time than a mass-produced listing — and that’s the point. The reward is the message I get after a blaster lands on someone’s shelf, telling me they’re thrilled with the build quality and the screen-accurate detail. That never gets old.

A Lifelong Star Wars Fan

I’m not a fan who came in late. I grew up in the ’70s watching it all unfold on the big screen, and I’ve carried that with me ever since. Today I troop with Cloud City Garrison in both a stormtrooper (TK) and a Mandalorian (Mando S2) kit. The 501st isn’t just a costume club — it’s charity trooping, community events, and showing up for people. That work is one of my favorite parts of the whole hobby.

Built for the Community

Whether you’re a die-hard cosplayer or someone just discovering the fun of owning a prop, you’re who I build for. Some of my favorite moments have come from helping new fans find their footing — a few of my customers have gone on to join the 501st themselves, and we still keep in touch. If my work helps spark someone’s place in the Star Wars community, that’s the win. Sales aren’t everything.

Yes. We ship across the US and internationally. Orders over $175 ship free within the US.
